July 2006: Picture of the month: Alvaro de Orleans-Borbon in his Taifun, at 7000 meters (23 000 feet) altitude, flying SW of the Annapurna (Himalaya) looking East (1985).
The Taifun was heavily equipped with meteo and nav sensors (41 kg of stuff, including a Omega/VLF - no GPS at that time !). At -30 degrees Celsius, the externally mounted cams repeatedly failed. Flight was from Europe to Pokhara (Nepal) and back.
Picture kindly provided by Mr. Alvaro de Orleans-Borbon.
