Picture of the month: View upon Lake Eyre (Australia) as seen by John Callahan on Sept. 7th 2009 with his newly bought Taifun 17 EII (VH-OZT). With around 17 m below sea level the lake is the lowest point in Australia. On occasions when if fills the lake also is the largest lake in Australia. Discovered in 1840 by John Eyre, hence its name, the maximum surface area can reach up to 9500 square kilometers. East of Lake Eyre, the Lake-Eyre_nationalpark is located, one of the driest regions in Australia.

Bild des Monats: John Callahan machte dieses schöne Bild über Lake Eyre (Australien) am 7. September 2009 während einem Flug mit seiner neulich erworbenen Taifun 17 EII (VH-OZT). Lake Eyre ist mit 17 m. unter NN der tiefste Punkt Australiens. Bei Gelegenheiten kann Lake Eyre, gennant nach dem brittischen Forscher John Eyre der der See in 1840 entdeckte, bis zu 9500 quadrat kilometer groß werden; etwa halb so groß wie Sachsen. Am östlichen Ufer findet man den Lake-Eyre-Nationalpark, einer der trockensten Gegenden Australiens.
