Crossing the English Channel, as a result of the hazy atmosphere, the border between water and sky at the horizon was difficult to see. Calais on the French coast is only 34 km (21 mi) from the English Southcoast. During normal or good circumstances the white cliffs of Dover can be seen from Calais, but today we were less lucky.
