View upon Sauzon
harbour on the French island
Belle Île. The island measures 17 kms by 9 kms and belongs to the
département Morbihan, surface area 87 km². In 1876 it had 11,000
inhabitants but nowadays this number barely reaches 5,000 inhabitants.
During the summer the population of the island increases drastically (about
20,000), most of them being people owning a second house on the island, because
of its isolated location and beautiful beaches.
